Italian classical pianist Alessandro Conti has achieved what the greatest music - or any music, for that matter - always demands. He has internalized it and made it his own in the deepest way.
In a time when too many pianists are just phoning in a piano competition-ready performance to please their parents? teachers? managers? he has done the well-nigh impossible by meeting composer Philip Glass on his own - dare I say "spiritual"? grounds - and making that music "speak" as few others have.
In this way he's like the revered and still living Italian classical pianist Maurizio Pollini whose recorded performance of the keyboard part in Brahms' great Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34, with the magisterial Quartetto Italiano, lifts this ineffable piece to an even higher realm.
Conti's hands listen and the music listens and breathes its own in the very deepest way. And who could ask for more?
